IRS fax number finder

The official fax number for every IRS form we know is accepted by fax. Type a form number or topic, pick your state, and copy the number.

Checked on October 21, 2026 against each form's instructions on irs.gov (linked under every form). The IRS says fax numbers can change without notice, so open the source on the day you send. If your IRS letter or notice gives its own fax number, use that one instead.

Social Security (SSA) fax numbers

The Social Security Administration doesn't publish one general fax number on ssa.gov. Its forms page says paper forms can be faxed or mailed to your local office unless the form gives other instructions - ask your office for its fax number, or check the letter you received. For disability hearings, each hearing office has its own toll-free fax number, printed at the top of your notices and listed in SSA's hearing office locator. Checked on October 21, 2026.

Faxing an IRS form from your iPhone

  1. Fill in and sign the form. Unsigned forms are sent back.
  2. Add a cover sheet with your name, a phone number, the form number and the page count - our free cover sheet maker makes one in the browser.
  3. In HonestFax, scan the pages, choose United States and enter the number from the finder above. The price shows before you send.
  4. Keep the delivered record until the IRS processes the form. See how to confirm a fax was received.

Step-by-step walkthroughs for the most common forms are in faxing the IRS.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fax something to the IRS?

Yes, for the forms whose official instructions give a fax number, like the ones above. Each form has its own number, and some depend on the state you live in.

My IRS letter lists a fax number. Which number should I use?

The one on your letter or notice. It goes to the team handling your case. The numbers on this page are for forms sent on their own.

How do I know the IRS received my fax?

A fax that shows as delivered, with the date, time and page count, reached the IRS fax line. Keep that record. Processing can still take weeks.

Does Social Security have a fax number?

Not one general number - see the Social Security section above.
