About HonestFax
HonestFax is an iPhone app that sends and receives real faxes. It's built on one rule: you see what a fax costs before you scan the first page.
Who makes it
HonestFax is an independent app made by Or Barda, its founder. There's no large company or investor behind it - one person builds the app, writes the guides on this site and answers the support e-mail. It has been on the App Store since September 2026.
I started it after looking at how fax apps are usually sold: a free trial that turns into a weekly subscription, often for people who needed to send a single form. HonestFax works the other way - you pay for the pages you send, the price is on screen first, and a subscription is only an option for people who fax every week.
What HonestFax does
- Sends faxes from an iPhone to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan. You scan paper with the camera or attach a PDF or photo, and it goes out as a real fax over the telephone network.
- Receives faxes on a personal US or Canada fax number. Incoming faxes arrive in the app as PDFs, with a notification.
- Shows every step of a fax, from dialing to delivered, and keeps the exact pages that were sent.
- Shares, saves and prints any sent or received fax as a PDF.
- Adds a cover page with your name, phone number and a short message.
What it costs
- Your first page is free on a new device.
- Credits: a fax of up to 3 pages is $2.99, 10 pages are $4.99, 30 pages are $9.99. One page is one credit, and credits never expire.
- 7-Day Pass: $9.99 once for a personal fax number for 7 days, plus up to 100 pages of sending that week. It never renews.
- HonestFax Pro: $12.99 a month or $79.99 a year, with a fax number and unlimited sending (fair use: 500 pages a month).
- There is no weekly subscription.
Prices are in US dollars, charged through the App Store. The app always shows the current price before you buy. The full comparison with a weekly-plan fax app is on the pricing comparison page.
The rules HonestFax follows
- Price before effort. The page count and the cost show above the Send button, before anything is charged.
- Failed faxes are refunded automatically. If a fax fails after all delivery attempts, the credits go back to your balance.
- No surprise price rises. If prices go up, an active subscription keeps its price for as long as it stays active (see the Terms of Use).
- No account to create. The app starts with an anonymous account - no e-mail or password. You can export your history or delete your account from the Info tab. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
- Facts on this site are checked at the source. Fax numbers, form rules and other services' prices in the guides come from the official page, with the date it was checked.
Free tools
Two tools on this site are free to use, with no sign-up: a printable fax cover sheet maker that makes the PDF in your browser, and an IRS fax number finder with the number for each form and state.
